Time Well Wasted

Time well wasted.
An oxymoron if there ever was one.
Staring at the ocean, watching a bird stalk his prey, curled up with the love of your life, be it spouse, partner, kid, or pet.
Technically, we are doing nothing in each of those scenarios.
We are not proactively accomplishing anything.
We are not advancing deals, researching markets, spying on our competitors, or blindly paying close attention to emails that may or may not involve us.
But we are living.
Quietly.
With purpose.
With passion.
With intent.
This is self-improvement at its very best.
Noting the complex color palette the sun gives us as it comes up over the horizon is your medication.
It's your healing.
I watched a woman sitting peacefully on the beach looking out at the Gulf as I wrote this (not in a creepy way, mind you), and she didn't move for over ten minutes, her head staring out at the great aquatic expanse before her.
From eleven floors up, it's not like I could tell if she was awake.
Maybe she was asleep.
Maybe she was cataloging the upcoming budget meeting notes for her Monday morning meeting.
I'd like to think that she was sitting quietly, wasting her time looking out at something bigger than her and sitting in awe of it.
I was rooting for her because paying attention to all these things around me, letting my brain make connections, and letting my soul feel at peace for a moment felt like the greatest waste of my time I could ever dream up.
