Window Shopping

How much is that life in the window?
I loved The Secret, incredible book.
But in many ways, it was detrimental to everyone who read it.
It should have come with a timer.
You get sixty seconds to visualize your dream life. Sixty ticks of the clock to fantasize about what you’re working toward.
And then…
You get back to work.
Visualization is powerful. I believe in it. Whether it’s crossing a finish line or holding your finished work in your hands—those images matter. They motivate. What I don’t love is when it’s taken to the extreme. When visualization becomes a crutch we lean on instead of a launchpad we push off from.
"I’ll get there."
"I can feel it. I can see it."
And then…
You do nothing.
Because hey—you felt it already, right?
That was the work. That was exhausting.
I’ll use myself here, not because I enjoy it—but because truth stings, and mine is no exception.
I’ve spent an inordinate amount of time thinking about the future, crafting intricate plans, dreaming my way to success.
And I’ve achieved… maybe 1% of it.
Why?
Because I was too busy thinking about the next step instead of taking it!
If the timekeeper of this little game showed up and said:
“Hey, I can refund you all that time you spent daydreaming, planning, and visualizing—want it back?”
My answer would be ... Hell yes!
I’d use it to DO the things.
To actually work.
And yet, I still catch myself browsing flights to "get inspired for a trip."
I scroll through Airbnb listings in surf towns or mountain villages, "visualizing" the income needed to make it happen.
But the truth is simpler:
Go make it.
Then go use it.
My hope for you today?
Don’t dream.
Work.
Not another vision board.
Not another goal list.
Not another podcast on success.
Send the email.
Make the call.
Build the deck.
Pitch and get rejected.
Do something real.
Because that’s what turns window shopping into an overflowing life.
In the backcountry, they call it, "Earning your turns."
